Eagles Tribute @ iZulu Theatre - What an experience!

Showtime Australia's Tribute to the Eagles
Showtime Australia

Prepare to be blown away! It’s no exaggeration that Showtime Australia’s ‘Hotel California – The Eagles Experience’ is ‘THE ULTIMATE TRIBUTE’

I

n January when I chatted to David Thompson and David Gray I was promised a show like no other. “It’s almost a religious experience” for the fans, I was told. “They come because they love the music.” So I took them at their word and brought along an avid Eagles fan… and this is what he said:

“It’s mind-blowing – they haven’t missed a beat! Their quality is unsurpassed. Their professionalism and accuracy is something to which all musicians should aspire”. A day later and he is still raving about the show.

Enhancing this determination to give the fans exactly what they want, footage of the original members of the Eagles is projected onto screens behind the Showtime musicians. So accurate are the renditions that you can watch the screens and the words correspond with the actions.

Cast

The choice of the musicians has been of tantamount importance. Each one loves and lives his music – it isn’t merely a job, it’s a career. In addition they’ve become a tight-knit family where the slightest nod of the head communicates its meaning while on stage and they’re there for each other when off stage. (This communication even extends to the crew standing in the wings – merely by tilting back slightly David Thompson was able to indicate that he had a problem with the sound and everything was sorted without him missing even one beat – now that’s professionalism!)

·         David Thompson (keyboard, vocals and guitars) portrays Glenn Frey;

·         David Gray (percussion and drums) – Don Henley;

·         Marcus Tate (guitar) – Joe Walsh;

·         Russell Davey (bass) – Timothy B Schmit; and

·         Richard Baker (keyboard and guitars) – represents Don Felder.

Each of the guys believe that “it’s a privilege to be on stage” and play the music that they love.

There are so many memorable moments that’s it’s almost impossible to single out a special song. However, saying that the renditions of ‘Desperado’ and ‘Seven Bridges Road’ (with tons of ‘stars’ in the background) sent shivers down my spine.

Do yourselves a favour and pop down to the Izulu Theatre @ Sibaya Casino and Entertainment World in uMdloti to see the show – you will have missed out on an experience of a lifetime if you don’t! The final performance is on 28 February.

Tickets are R220pp and the show begins at 8pm from Wednesday – Saturday and 3pm on a Sunday. Booking is through Computicket.
